Truck drivers have a tough job. Navigating huge vehicles through small spaces, narrow roads or very long journeys requires immense concentration and stamina and comes with big responsibility. To optimize your health, driving ability and focus can be very beneficial for not only your well being but the safety of others and your cargo.

So here is a list of easy to follow habits for truck drivers that can make your driving a joy to yourself and others.

1.) Drink Water

While this may seem so simple, drinking plenty of clean, fresh water is one of the best ways to keep your body and mind functioning at its optimal potential. It is easy to get dehydrated when we forget to drink water especially in warm areas or on long trips. While coffee, caffeinated drinks, and carbonated drinks may be tempting, they will only provide a temporary rush followed by a big crash that leaves you feeling fatigued and with a loss of concentration. They will also serve to pack on the pounds if not monitored. So keep at least two liters of fresh water in your truck at all times. Best of all it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.

2.) Eat Healthy Snacks Often

Instead of grabbing a greasy burger and greasy fries at a convenient truck stop, keep a cooler bag in your truck, stocked up with healthy fresh snacks. Try a range of nuts, fresh fruits, and sandwiches. This will allow you to eat smaller amounts more often. It is far better than starving yourself for hours on end which will lead to a loss of energy and focus. Also, your weight will benefit from not craving big greasy meals when you go hungry for too long.

3.) Stop and Stretch

Make a habit of stopping regularly, getting out and doing a few stretches. Sitting still for hours on end can be a disaster for your circulation and lead to a loss of focus. So get out, reach for the sky, reach for your toes, swing your arms around and do a few rounds of walking around your truck. It need not take long, but a minute or two will certainly help you to stay in shape and energized for the rest of the journey.

4.) Make Your Car Cleaner
Mix together equal parts white vinegar and water. Then, work the paste into the tires with a scrub brush. 5.) Make it joyful!

It can get a bit boring and lonely to drive for hours on end, so make the best of your time and make it enjoyable. Keep a good stock of your favorite uplifting music and sing along. You can even try learning new things by listening to audio tapes of lectures. Try learning a new language by listening to language tapes. A firm listening favorite is audio books.
