Truck drivers have a tough job. Navigating huge vehicles through small spaces, narrow roads or very long journeys requires immense concentration and stamina and comes with big responsibility. To optimize your health, driving ability and focus can be very beneficial for not only your well being but the safety of others and your cargo.

So here is a list of easy to follow habits for truck drivers that can make your driving a joy to yourself and others.

1.) Drink Water

While this may seem so simple, drinking plenty of clean, fresh water is one of the best ways to keep your body and mind functioning at its optimal potential. It is easy to get dehydrated when we forget to drink water especially in warm areas or on long trips. While coffee, caffeinated drinks, and carbonated drinks may be tempting, they will only provide a temporary rush followed by a big crash that leaves you feeling fatigued and with a loss of concentration. They will also serve to pack on the pounds if not monitored. So keep at least two liters of fresh water in your truck at all times. Best of all it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.

2.) Eat Healthy Snacks Often

Instead of grabbing a greasy burger and greasy fries at a convenient truck stop, keep a cooler bag in your truck, stocked up with healthy fresh snacks. Try a range of nuts, fresh fruits, and sandwiches. This will allow you to eat smaller amounts more often. It is far better than starving yourself for hours on end which will lead to a loss of energy and focus. Also, your weight will benefit from not craving big greasy meals when you go hungry for too long.

3.) Stop and Stretch

Make a habit of stopping regularly, getting out and doing a few stretches. Sitting still for hours on end can be a disaster for your circulation and lead to a loss of focus. So get out, reach for the sky, reach for your toes, swing your arms around and do a few rounds of walking around your truck. It need not take long, but a minute or two will certainly help you to stay in shape and energized for the rest of the journey.

4.) Make Your Car Cleaner
Mix together equal parts white vinegar and water. Then, work the paste into the tires with a scrub brush. 5.) Make it joyful!

You can even try learning new things by listening to audio tapes of lectures. Try learning a new language by listening to language tapes. A firm listening favorite is audio books.

The Hazards of Woodworking

Woodworking is a wonderful hobby which always you to create useful and gorgeous pieces of work. While it is a fun activity with great results, there are a lot of health hazards that some people are unaware of. Most of these hazards can be avoided if the proper precautions are taken.

Sawdust
Sawdust, created from the intense cutting of wood, can cause some serious damage to the eyes, lungs, and skin. Sawdust irritation and effects are more common when using jigsaws, miter saws, and other electrical cutting tools. Because the blades move so quickly, compared to a hand saw, the sawdust is actually shot into the air instead of simply dropping to the ground.

To avoid eye issues, it’s highly recommended that the user and anyone in the vicinity wear goggles. Sawdust in the eyes can cause extreme irritations and potentially scratch the iris, leading to severe pain. Additionally, when working with an electrical saw, like a best mitre saw, getting sawdust in the eyes can lead to even greater hazards that could draw blood or other serious injuries.

Sawdust can also cause irritation to sensitive skin. This is common around the hands and arms, which are the closest to the blade as it’s shooting sawdust into the air. The sawdust can dry out skin or cause an allergic reaction.

Sawdust can also have a severe impact on your respiratory system if you put yourself at risk of inhaling the sawdust. This could cause gagging, asthma-like attacks, or worse. It can dry out your nasal passageways, causing nosebleeds. The proper way to prevent respiratory issues is wearing a facemask to prevent the dust from getting near your mouth and nose.

One other way to prevent sawdust injuries is to create more ventilation in the area. By pulling the sawdust in the air away from you, it is less likely to cause damage.

Fire Hazards
Some people do not expect fire hazards to be an issue in woodworking. However, since you are dealing with heavy operating machinery, you are always at risk of something being over worked and an electrical fire, especially while working with wood. Saws are known to create sparks when used improperly. The best way to prevent fire hazards is to know the blade you’re working with, its capabilities, and what it’s best used for. Pairing a blade with a piece of wood that is too thick can overwork the blade and cause smoking/fire.

Body Injuries
It’s always important to maintain a focus on what you are doing in the woodworking process. Electrical tools, such as miter saws, possess very few safety features that prevent an injury from happening if the owner is unaware or not paying attention. Always be aware of where your body parts are in relation to the blade. Do not let your fingers, knuckles, or other body parts go near a blade while it is on, moving, or even plugged in. You put yourself at risk of injuring yourself. Always maintain focus as you are cutting as well. This will prevent you come causing an injury, one that will most likely result in blood.
